First Draft’s Poetry Special ft. Longfella
A very special evening of poetry, featuring fantastic headliner Tony Walsh (aka Longfella). Find out more about Tony here.
Monday 13 October at Gullivers
Workshop – 6.45pm (all welcome)
Performance – 8pm (including open mic for workshop participants)
You may (or may not) remember that one of the exciting things we did this summer was compete in 24:7 Theatre Festival‘s Big Slam. Our team of playwrights and actors took on groups of fiction writers, poets and rappers, and won enough votes from the judges and audience to have us sneak away with the title by the skin of our (truly humbled) teeth.
Our prize (if we chose to accept it… We did.) was an evening with the Big Slam’s brilliant host, poet Tony Walsh (Longfella). And we’ve chosen to make use of him by putting on a very special First Draft poetry event, in the form of a Performance Workshop.
Come on down and join us – we want to invite all poetry writers (experienced or otherwise) to join us at 6.45pm for a very special poetry workshop with Tony. If you like what you come up with in this session – you’ll get the chance to perform it in front of a live audience later on.
From 8pm onwards, we’ll then be showcasing some of our favourite First Draft poets from our cabaret nights, who will be reading some truly first draft poems that they’ve never performed for an audience before. There’ll also be an open mic for anyone who wants to share what they came up with in the workshop, and a headline set from Tony Walsh.
What the **** is a ‘Performance Workshop’ anyway?
Well, it’s a new format for us too. But it will work like this…
6.45pm (for a prompt 7pm start)
Poetry workshop with Tony Walsh
Performance – feat. First Draft’s favourite poets, open mic for poems written in the workshop, and a headline set from Longfella himself
