The diaries of Dora Turnor – digital commission by Mark Mace Smith

Mark Mace Smith has taken on our very first digital commission as part of our project ‘Let the artists in!’, which commissions brand new work inspired by collections in museums and libraries across the north of England. He responded to our first collection prompt at Chetham’s Library using photography and video.

As well as a photographer, you might know Mark as a poet, podcaster, video maker, free thinker and activist.

Mark’s atmospheric video is the first of a series of artist commissions inspired by the diaries of Victorian teenager, Dora Turnor, which are held in the collection at the incredible Chetham’s Library in Manchester – the oldest public library in the English speaking world.
